Tahini Dates with Dark Chocolate

Dates, tahini and dark chocolate are some of my favorite ingredients on their own. But when they’re all put together they become addictive! Not only is this recipe super quick and easy to make, but it’s the perfect choice when you need just a little sweet treat.

The customizations for this recipe are endless. You can swap out the tahini filling for peanut butter. Or use almond butter and add some flaked coconut for a healthier almond joy. Feel free to mix and match ingredients to make this recipe work best for you.

Tips and Tricks

  1. When cutting the dates open, do not cut all the way through. You want to make sure you have a nice little pocket to hold your tahini filling.
  2. When putting the melted chocolate on top, you’re more than welcome to coat the date entirely or dip it in the melted chocolate. But the easiest way I’ve found is to just use a spoon and drop some of the melted chocolate on top. It is much quicker.
  3. If I have any leftovers I keep them in the freezer either in a freezer bag or a glass bowl with a lid.

Tahini Dates with Dark Chocolate

These dates are the perfect balance of sweet and salty for when you need a quick treat.
Prep Time10 minutes
Chilling Time15 minutes
Total Time25 minutes
Course: Dessert, Snack
Keyword: dark chocolate, Dates, maple syrup, tahini
Servings: 12 Dates

Equipment

  • 1 Small Microwaveable Bowl
  • 1 Small Pan or Dish

Ingredients

  • 12 Large Pitted Dates (I use Deglet Noor or Medjool Dates)
  • 3 tbsp Tahini
  • 1 tsp Maple Syrup
  • pinch Sea Salt (To taste)
  • 3 tbsp Dark Chocolate Chips

Optional

  • pinch Sesame Seeds (For topping)

Instructions

  • Arrange dates on a small pan or dish.
  • Cut halfway into the dates to open them up. Do not cut all the way through, you want it to hold the tahini filling.
  • Mix tahini, maple syrup and salt together in a small microwaveable bowl.
  • Spoon the tahini filling into the dates.
  • Once all the tahini mixture is used, you can melt the dark chocolate chips in the same bowl.
  • I melt the chocolate chips in my microwave in increments of 30 seconds (it will depend on your microwave as to how many times).
  • Spoon the melted chocolate onto the top of the stuffed dates.
  • Optional - Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of chocolate.
  • Place in freezer for approximately 15 minutes or until the chocolate hardens.
  • You are then ready to enjoy!
